On the official PASBR forums there is a post that shows all kind of concept art from PS All Stars (community.us.playstation.com/t… ).

Let me show you some of the stuff and see what they planned as possible content for the game.

Alternative structures for "Dreamscape" (LittleBigPlanet/Buzz stage):



Kinda pisses me off. Look how well designed these are? Much better than the one who made it into the game. :(
Very neat with the towers, the clouds and the "seesaw" on the right side.


Originally planned Parappa stage:



Looks familiar, right? It resembles the Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl stage "Onett", which is Ness' hometown in Earthbound. Here is a picture:



Maybe it was too much of a copy.


Toro's moveset differences and effects:



The outfit, top right, looks cool and represents Japan more. And the wave looks much better than the fishbone.


Concept designs and interactive interface development:



This could have been the official roster. Characters such as Buzz, LocoRoco, Chimera (long rumored), Captain Blasto, more characters from Fat Princess and Parappa the Rapper etc.

Why aren't they in the game? They are all Sony exclusives, didn't they fit into the game? Was it too unbalanced? Too little time? Or will they make it in the sequel? We'll see.

Also the portraits of the characters are much more improved and unique. Everything in general has a clear structure just like SSB. We couldn't have a cheaper design than we have now.

Quite shocked that SO much didn't make it in the game.
My theory: No time and a lot of pressure from Sony to release it soon. Remember it was released just one year ago, just one year before PS4. Sony was counting on a lot of sales and pushed it very hard. Even without a real story mode and all the awesome planned things. I hope for a great comeback on PS4 and I hope for another developer for it. I think SuperBot did a really good job, but I don't think that they have enough experience for something that big. Guess Sony saw that, too. I wish Naughty Dog made it, as it was originally planned. Even if they aren't experienced in fighting games, but they sure know how to make a BIG game. Maybe Naughty Dog is working on PASBR2 AT THIS VERY MOMENT. :D

Daaaw, it's allways a little sad to see great contest art that didn't made it into the actual game. :-(

Hi, i'm the thread creator. I'm glad that the thread is picking up a lot of steam from the fans. I will try to update the list with more concept art that I find.

But this game has been under development for nearly 3 years. Superbot had plenty of time to make a better game throughout that time period.

I kind of don't agree with not having a big budget. Iv they managed to get DmC Dante before DmC came out, and the Bioshock Infinite stage before Bioshock Infinite came out, than they must had spent a hefty amount of money. Unless there's more to it.

The other option was that the developers gave them the IP's so they can be used as advertisement. I know that this is a unpopular theory, but it is well supported. As for the budget, I'm not too sure what happened.

I'm a Nintendo fan but how the game have potential and simple loss the ball was terrible,even the concept art looks better that final product(even if parrapa would have made Nintendo lawyer have a field day, Nintendo is pretty protective of Eartbound because being a shigesato itoi idea)

The idea of 3D gameplay looks interesting, GoW: Ascencion have a multiplayer who would have been perfect for PSABR but again other missed oportunity.

Man, as much as I liked this game, seeing all this REALLY pissed me off! It feels like I was completely ripped off and at this very moment am playing a beta of the game!CURSE YOU!

And yet they threw in Third Party Character's that weren't needed, when there were many 1st Party Character's.

while I could agree with you that more first party characters could have been easily used - DART FELD - which is a missed opportunity . 3rd party is a big part of playstation, many people liked the 3rd party characters in the game, and I would love to have seen a ton of 3rd party characters.

The Devil May Cry series were great, popular games on PS systems. It WAS also an exclusive, until the third game went up on PC. Since most characters are represented in their most recent form, new Dante was put in. This guy was a good choice (but old Dante would've been better :3)

Do I really need to explain Raiden's inclusion? Metal Gear Solid was an amazing game series that, again, originated on the Playstation. Arguably, Raiden was put in apposed to Snake because Snake was included in SSBB. Raiden also was a good choice.

Heihachi has the same story. A game that was originally on the Playstation (that is if you don't count arcade machines). It had evolved Fighting games, bringing 3D mechanics into the battles. This guy was a good choice too.

Big Daddy is the only guy who is arguably NOT a Playstation Allstar. His game had originally started on XBOX, and was later ported to the Playstation. I'd say he's still a good choice, if only because his game was AMAZING. Again, it's arguable if he deserved a spot.

Playstation has lots of good First Party characters, but they were either too hard to get, or they didn't come in time. Due to bad sales of DLC, planned DLC characters were canceled (Part of the reason Dart and Abe were cancelled).

That, and third party characters are needed. If Crash and Spyro got in, would you say they weren't needed because they were third party? They had a history with Playstation, along with the aforementioned characters above. They certainly would be needed. It's the same deal with the others you mentioned, they have a history with playstation, and they're from great games. An allstar is a term that is used to describe a person as an outstanding performer. The literal definition of this game's title is Playstation's outstanding performers. All the games showcased in this game were great. What determines what is not an allstar is a character with no ties to Sony or a universally bad game. These third party characters deserved their spots that they were given.

They're hard to get simply because they are owned by other people. Spyro and Crash are great examples: Activsion didn't want them in, so they weren't in. This is the most common reason as to why they aren't in the game. Another common one is the devs didn't ask :l

Yeah those are third partie's though. The ones I'm talking about are 1st Party's which Sony owns. So they shouldn't be hard.

Sony cannot force a company to give their IP's (Well, they CAN, but that would be a dick move...). A better example than Crash and Spyro are Wander and Ico. They weren't in because the developers considered their games as an art.

To be fair, it didn't spend a lot of time in development. Also, that thing everyone calls a story mode, is in fact an arcade mode. It even says that in the game. If Naughty Dog made it, it probably wouldn't have been as good because they would have been super-pissed. They were in the middle of development for The Last of Us. Then there's the fact that Superbot was formed with fighter experts in mind, whereas Naughty Dog's fighter experience is only with Way of The Warrior. That 3D gameplay would have most likely been a mini-game.

Never mind, I was thinking of something else, but still, there were a lot of characters that were planned but never made it into the final product. One reason most likely being move sets. Those aren't easy to code and animate.

Not true. Devil May Cry has good history with the PS2, so fans were going to ask for him no matter what. Same goes with Metal Gear Solid. And with Heihachi, the game needed someone from an actual fighter.  Isaac was probably a case of getting whatever they could because let's face it. Another third-party addition doesn't hurt since it shows that OTHER COMPANIES have confidence in the game. Plus, do you realize how many fans wanted Elizabeth and Booker? Big Daddy would have been a requested character as well.

Actually she's first party. The game Folklore is only on Playstation and made by Sony. So thereby she's First Party.
